Be-Attitudes

BLESSED ARE YOU who walk with us in public places and ignore the stares of strangers, for in your companionship we find havens of relaxation.

BLESSED ARE YOU who never bid us to “hurry up” and, more blessed, you who do not snatch our tasks from us, for often we need time rather than help.

BLESSED ARE YOU who stand beside us as we enter new and untried ventures, for our failures will be outweighed by the times when we surprise ourselves and you.

BLESSED ARE YOU who ask for our help, for our greatest need is to be needed.

BLESSED ARE YOU who help us with the graciousness of Christ, who did not bruise the reed or quench the flax, for often we need the help we cannot ask for.

BLESSED ARE YOU, when, by all these things, you assure us that the thing that makes us individuals is not in our peculiar muscles, nor in our wounded nervous systems, but in the god-given self that no infirmity can confine.

REJOICE and be exceedingly glad, and know that you give us reassurances that could never be spoken in words, for you deal with us as God has dealt with all His children.

BLESSED ARE YOU who make the most of your abilities, for you convert your disabilities from tragedies into challenges and from challenges into opportunities.

BLESSED ARE YOU who learned new skills, for you teach us to develop the gifts we have instead of dwelling on what we lack.

BLESSED ARE YOU who don't use disabilities as excuses, for you know the satisfaction and self-respect of being accountable.

BLESSED ARE YOU who patiently explain your needs and wishes, for you educate us in serving one another.

BLESSED ARE YOU who forgive insults, pitying remarks and paternalism, for you heal your wounds, and you show us the errors of our fears and arrogance.

BLESSED ARE YOU who take worthwhile risks in trying new things, for you build your courage and confidence, for you take your places as role models and pioneers.

BLESSED ARE YOU who have a sense of humor for you teach us that tears and laughter run deeper than pride and selfishness.

BLESSED ARE YOU who learn to face disability and death without denial, fear or bitterness: for you open yourselves and others to enjoy and enhance the beauty and blessings of life itself.

REJOICE and be exceedingly glad, for you teach us that wholeness is not a physical or mental state but rather the awareness of our true selves.

You teach us that we are both physical and non-physical beings:

WE ARE SPIRITUAL CHILDREN OF GOD!
