Greg came to AUDIOBOOK MINISTRIES in March 2012 to fill the position of Executive Director. His primary responsibility is to carry out the Mission and Vision of our ministry every day. This includes managing all aspects of the staff and volunteers, recruiting new volunteers, creating new processes for the digital conversion, fund raising, and managing the financial health of the ministry. By listening to God’s guidance and timing, Greg works alongside the Board of Directors to make sure the ministry stays on task to meet their goals.
Greg is married to his high school sweetheart, Cindy, and will celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary in September, 2016. They have two grown married children and 5 grandchildren ranging in ages from 6-19 years. Both their son, Nick, and daughter, Laurie, also help out at ABM: Nick by developing and managing our online library, and Laurie as one of our digital editors. Greg feels blessed that both of their children share their gifts that God has given them to help build ABM into a great digital library.
In their spare time, Greg and Cindy love to travel, camp, and spend time with family. He also enjoys volunteering on social change issues and serving with the Burien Lions.
Greg’s favorite author is Henri Nouwen and has read several of his books. This is a special quote that means a lot to him:
“Did I offer Peace Today? Did I bring a smile to someone’s face? Did I Let go of my anger and resentment? Did I forgive? Did I love? These are the real questions. I must trust that the little bit of love that I sow now, will bear many fruits, here in this world and life to come.”
Shirley has been with ABM for 19 ½ years, beginning as a part-time Librarian when the ministry grew to where the director back in 1996 needed help. Shirley’s expertise and devotion to detail has helped keep ABM flowing smoothly. Her vast knowledge of authors, books and genre, has helped shape to create our wide category of literature that we offer. She has jokingly been referred to as the “Keeper of all Knowledge”, and we know that for a fact just by working with her. Often you will hear, “Just ask Shirley, she’ll remember” around the office.
Shirley has been married to her husband, Jerry for 35 years, and they have 3 grown children, Julie, Steven (wife Angela), and Jamie (husband Cory). In her free time, Shirley enjoys scrapbooking, gardening, sewing, reading and traveling. Her favorite authors are Dee Henderson, Karen Kingsbury, Lori Wick, Beth Moore and a whole lot more!
Shirley is nearing her 20 years of service with the ministry in September, 2016 and decided to cut back her hours. She now job-shares the Librarian position with Jo Etta Smith.
In October, 2015, we hired Jo Etta Smith to begin a job-share with Librarian Shirley Farris. Born in Indianapolis, Indiana, and later moved to Sacramento, California, Jo Etta moved to Seattle in 1984 to be closer to her siblings. She is blessed with two daughters and three grandchildren: two grandsons, ages 12 and 18 and one granddaughter, age 15.
Upon retiring in 2009 after working in the Health Care Insurance Industry for 22 years, Jo Etta sought out her desire to do volunteer work, and heard that ABM was looking for volunteers as well as a part-time Librarian to job-share with Shirley Farris. We are happy to have Jo Etta part of the team and are encouraged by her team spirit and leadership needed for this position, as well as the heart and compassion for working in this ministry.
Jo Etta’s favorite author is Karen Kingsbury, and was recently thrilled to have her book, The Bridge, shown on the Hallmark Channel.
Jo Etta’s hobbies include reading and coloring in the new coloring books for grown-ups.
Tuyet has been with ABM since June, 2014, and has fit in well with the rest of the office staff and volunteers. She is often the first person you will meet when entering our office and answering our phone. Her smile is contagious and she is always willing to go the extra mile to make sure all of our patrons are well taken care of.
Tuyet was born in Saigon and raised in Des Moines, Washington with her two siblings. Her mother’s side of the family was sponsored through a local church, John Knox Presbyterian, and now her extended family lives throughout the Puget Sound area with families of their own.
While not working, Tuyet enjoys spending time with her 6 year-old niece and 10 year-old nephew. She loves living in Seattle and enjoys the great outdoors and traveling abroad. On nice days, you will often find her on a hike at one of our nearby mountains or camping throughout the Pacific Northwest. During football season, Tuyet is our official Seahawk fan, sporting a different shirt every Friday for Blue-Fridays, and rallies the staff and volunteers to do the same.
Communications Coordinator and Book Production Manager
Judy celebrates 5 years with ABM in April, 2016. After being a stay-at-home mom for nearly 18 years she returned to the work force as part-time secretary for her church, then later worked for a tax preparers office, winding up here at ABM as Communications Coordinator.
Judy compiles the newsletter, e-news, social media and any other type of communication needed within the ministry. She also does some bookkeeping and has most recently added Book Production Manager to her list of duties. That involves working alongside our narrators, helping with training and assigning books to them as needed. She is also instrumental in helping with the digital transfer of our current library as well as a couple thousand books we inherited from another library that closed.
Judy has been married to Chuck (both are Seattle natives) for 32 years and they have 3 grown daughters, Elizabeth (Jesiah) & 2 granddaughters; Joanna (Corry) & 1 year-old twin grandsons; and Sarah. In her spare time, Judy loves spending time with her grandchildren, who live in Idaho, and keeps busy gardening, working on a generational scrapbook, traveling with her husband, and doing the social media for their church. Her and Chuck are avid soccer fans and enjoy attending their half-season tickets to the Sounders.
Kitrell (Kit) Frank has been with us since 2013, first being hired to assist with digitizing our cassettes as we transition to a digital library, and now providing office support for our office administrator and librarian.
Kit was born and raised in a very small town in Louisiana, Ville Platte. She is married to Reggie and they have 2 grown children and are proud grandparents of 10 grandchildren.
Kit loves to tell the story of how she found out about ABM: “One day, I woke up and I opened the Yellow Pages. God told me to call AUDIOBOOK MINISTRIES. I spoke to a lady and she let me speak to Greg. I told Greg that God said for me to call. So I did. After some conversation and my coming here, well…..I’ve been working here for 3 years and I have enjoyed every minute of it!”
Kit loves coming to work at ABM and aids in a variety of office duties, including making the numerous phone calls necessary to help patrons convert from using cassettes to digital cartridges. If you hear laughter in the office, it is often that of Kit’s, bringing joy and happiness to all who she works with. Kit also has a great love of reading and spends her free time with a good book, along with watching the Mariners and Seahawks.
Damon is a 2013 graduate from Highline High School, located in nearby Burien, Washington. He began volunteering at ABM in 2012 while in his junior year of high school through a program called Vadis. Vadis helps to provide people with disabilities opportunities and experiences to fulfill their economic and human potential often through meaningful volunteer and employment opportunities.
Damon began volunteering by helping us process books as they came back in from being checked out to patrons, then moved to helping us digitize our library, and is now currently on staff keeping busy copying audio files to digital cartridges for our patrons.
Damon loves all of Seattle’s sports teams: Seahawks, Mariners, Sounders, and Thunderbirds and often attends events around the area with his brother and mom. He loves playing computer games in his free time.
