The People of Tape Ministries NW

Some of the most important people in our ministry family are the wonderful patron-clients we serve. In 2004, we shared the joy of reading with 654 blind and reading-disabled friends in 47 states and Canada.

Tape Ministries NW serves people who have difficulty reading regular print books. We share the joy of reading with individuals who are blind, visually impaired, dyslexic, sensitive to the chemicals in ink, or who have physicial disabilities which make it hard to hold a book or turn the pages.

Our patrons include men and women, senior citizens, and many who are younger. But they all have one thing in common -- they love to read and need a source for inspirational and wholesome books.

Caregivers also benefit from our services, enjoying a welcome respite while the person they care for is busy reading a good book.

Forty-five volunteers work to make this ministry possible. They record the books, serve on our Board of Directors and do much of the work to duplicate tapes and check books in and out of the library. This ministry was started by volunteers and is possible because of their hard work and dedication.

Tape Ministries NW has 3 part-time staff members. Barbara Parsloe is our Executive Director, responsible for adminstration, communications and finances. Our Book Production Manager, Bonnie Heutink, works with narrators to ensure that our books on tape are excellent quality. And our Librarian, Shirley Farris, works with patrons to help them get the books they're most interested in. Paul and Carol Williams deserve special mention. They are unpaid staff members, who each volunteered more than 600 hours last year, helping us with technology and special projects.

When we talk about the people of Tape Ministries NW, we need to give honor to the caring individuals and churches who pray for us and support this ministry. Our ministry was born at John Knox Presbyterian Church in south Seattle and is currently housed at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Zion Lutheran Church in Kent is another sustaining partner.

Together we make a great team and find joy in sharing Christian books that remind people of God's love and encourage them in their Christian walk. We are grateful for all who play a part in this ministry.
